BRAZILIANS ALREADY PAID 300 BILLION IN TAXES IN 2020
This figure is divided between the Union, states and municipalities. Brazilians have paid R$ 300 billion in taxes since the beginning of this year. The value was reached today (5), at 1:50pm, according to the Impostômetro of the Commercial Association of São Paulo (ACSP). The amount corresponds to the total paid to the Union, states and municipalities in the form of taxes, fees, fines and contributions. The collection of R$ 300 billion was reached two days earlier compared to 2019, which was reached on February 7. For ACSP economist Marcel Solimeo, the result indicates the country’s economy shows signs of recovery. “Contrary to what people think, the increase in government tax revenues isn’t a bad thing, when it happens without changes in rates,” he explained. According to Solimeo, the figures contribute to the increase in the collection of taxes on consumption. “Now we will wait for the government to continue reducing spending and improving the use of public resources so that the economy grows more sharply,” he said. The Impostômetro was implemented in 2005 by the association with the objective of making Brazilians aware of the high tax burden in the country and encouraging them to charge governments for quality public services.
